Update to last post...
We took Rane to another dentist yesterday. This dentist prefers nitrous oxide (and possibly valium) rather than putting kids to sleep entirely. This means it will take 3 months instead of 3 hours to fix all of this, but I'm too concerned with iv sedation problems that could occur and this will also save us a ton of money. Instead of 6,000 out of pocket, it will be more like 1500. Another reason for that drastic difference in amount is that the dentist we saw on Tuesday had originally told me they would use stainless steel crowns ($300) and then on our rundown for how much it should cost us, had written down custom porcelin (sp?) crowns which are for adult teeth usually and cost around $1500! Since Rane needs TWO, you can see the problem. Yesterday's dentist thought that was rediculous (sorry really having spelling lapses today, not sure if that is right lol) and will only use the stainless steel for baby teeth. This makes so much more sense to me since Rane will be losing these teeth in 2-3 years anyway. Now we just have to hope that Rane can deal with it...otherwise it will all be a moot point and we'll have to go the more expensive route...although with the last dentist not the first one. We had also found out that prices in NOVA are horrible and just going 45 minutes to Germantown, MD, is soooooo much cheaper even if you get the exact same things. A former co-worker of dh's actually flew out to California to visit his old dentist (he had major things being done on a regular basis) and it was still CHEAPER than here! I'm really beginning to see what we got ourselves into here lol. Crossing my fingers for that Raise in December!
